I will never forget having a great lesson on
"We Didn't Start The
Fire." The head of Social Studies for the New York City Board of
Education asked a major New York television station to
come in and film me teaching it. My principal refused to allow the
TV crew to come into the school. He was also the same
principal who reprimanded me for talking to the students about track
when I was on lunch duty. (I showed him by helping coach our school
to its first New York City track championship)
