Throughout my teaching career
colleagues always stated that I would burn out. Most of them
are all cinders now and I am still going strong.
Of course there were times where I got
really down and felt like quitting but I stayed the course because I
was always concerned about the students.
It was not easy teaching in the inner
city where we had poor leadership, few supplies, little parent
support and constant change of staff. We also had to contend with
all the neighborhood problems: drugs, gangs, crime on a daily basis
in East New York - Brooklyn which was at the
time the Homicide Capital of New York City.
